INFORMATION & REFERRAL
Persons needing information of services available to Senior Citizens that live in Lauderdale county and/or assistance in obtaining these services may telephone or visit the Lauderdale County Commission on Aging in Halls. All calls and visits are conducted private and confidential.
OUTREACH
Staff members and Volunteer Senior Citizens will travel throughout Lauderdale County visiting people in their homes to inform them about services that are available as Senior Citizens of Lauderdale County and will assist them in obtaining these services when necessary.
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation is provided throughout Lauderdale County. Senior Citizens may ride on a contribution basis. Senior Citizens can be brought to the Senior Center and nutrition site, stores, medical appointments within Lauderdale County, shopping trips, field trips, and other personal business trips. FRIENDLY VISITATION
Staff Members and Volunteer Senior Citizens visit Ripley Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center and Lauderdale County Community Living Center in Ripley. We will also do in-home visits. If you would like a visit or know of someone who would, call (731) 836-5444.
TELEPHONE REASSURANCE
Lauderdale County Senior Citizens conduct this program. Emphasis is placed on persons who live alone, but telephone contact is also encouraged for those who are alone during the daytime and need the comfort of friendly concern. Volunteers throughout the county are always needed for this program. If interested, please call (731) 836-5444.
NUTRITION
Through the MIFA Meals Program, hot, nutritious meals are professionally prepared in the MIFA kitchen and delivered to the Halls and Ripley sites 5 days a week. In addition to these congregate meals, home delivered meals are delivered by volunteers. Recipients of home delivered meals MUST be homebound and without access to anyone who could prepare meals for them. All participants are encouraged to make a contribution of any amount they can afford, but no one is refused service for the inability to contribute.
ACTIVITIES
Activities are planned to comply with the needs and desires of those served. Suggestion boxes are available and Senior Citizens are encouraged to share ideas for planning programs. Activities include various crafts, bingo, music, parties, health screenings, physical fitness programs, walking club, pool, Scrabble, movies, dominos, ceramics, computer access and more. A television room is available and seating rooms for socialization and talk sessions. Other activities include field trips, overnight stays, special shopping trips and educational and informational workshops.
Lauderdale County Commission on Aging provides space for Delta Human Resource Agency to distribute commodities and to assist with cooling and health programs.
